The Bison women’s volleyball team hosted Oakland, Buffalo, and Cornell at Davis Gym during the Bucknell Invite on Sept. 16-17. Unfortunately, the Orange and Blue fell in all three matches, losing to Cornell 0-3, Oakland 0-3, and Buffalo 2-3. The Bison moved their season record to 2-10.

The Bison kicked off the Bucknell Invite with a match against Cornell. Bridgette Holland ’20 recorded nine kills, Kristen Parks ’17 had the team high of 14 digs, and Mimi Richards ’20 led the team at three block assists. Despite a 19-13 lead in the first set, Cornell was able to fight back and sweep the Bison 3-0.

While Oakland won three sets at 25-21, 25-22, and 25-21, the Bison remained competitive. Hailey Stout ’18 had nine kills, Blake Buchholz ’19 tallied eight, and Jordan Walker ’17 recorded six to keep the Orange and Blue pushing forward throughout the game. Holland also added another three blocks, and Erika Eastley ’17 tallied four block assists.

The Bison came out strong against Buffalo and won two of the first three sets 25-11 and 25-17. Buffalo counteracted and won the last two sets 25-19 and 15-10. Holland had 19 kills and seven total blocks. Luz Nagle ’18 had 35 assists, while Selby Schnobrich ’20 recorded 20. The Bison showed a lot of versatility and grit in this game, but Buffalo managed to pull out the win.

After her performance, Holland was named to the All-Tournament Team.

“While the record for the weekend didn’t come out as well as we hoped, there was a definite improvement in the level of play in the last two matches which we hope to continue into the start of Patriot League this weekend,” Holland said.

The Bison women’s volleyball team will begin Patriot League play with their match-up against American on Sept. 23, followed by Navy on Sept. 24.
