The first tailgate of the football season was held on Oct. 15 prior to the game against Colgate.

The event ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and took place on the football practice field. Around 200 students attended to eat, drink, and play football and cornhole. The first 50 students in attendance received free Bison Adidas winter hats.

Kat Sokirka ’18 planned the event as the Athletics Department’s only intern through the Undergraduate Executive Intern Program. Overall, Sokirka was pleased with the event. She will also be planning the spring tailgate next semester.

“I’m happy to have the fall tailgate under my belt to start planning the spring tailgate. I realized throughout the day what I could have done better and plan to make the spring tailgate better with those changes in mind,” Sokirka said.

Some of Sokirka’s proposed changes include moving the location to Bucknell West Fields and incorporating the event into a larger multi-sport weekend that would include women’s sports. She also wants to increase promotion for the event and have more items to give away.

“I have an idea for the spring giveaways, but everyone will just have to wait and see,” Sokirka said.

“I’m really proud of Kat for organizing a successful event […] It would have been great if more people were on campus and went to the football game, but what are you going to do?” Class President Anna Millar ’18 said.
