Men’s Tennis competed in singles and doubles at the River City Open in Richmond, Va., winning 12 singles matches and four doubles matches as they competed against teams such as Richmond, William & Mary and Patriot League rival Navy.
On Friday, the Bison played against James Madison in round-robin play. Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Adam Stavrakas ’26 both claimed wins. Tahirovic won 6-0, 6-2, while Stavrakas won 6-1, 6-1. Liam Kilmer ’27 took the Orange and Blue’s third win of the day, coming back to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Overall, the Dukes got the best of the Bison, claiming five singles victories. In addition, the Orange and Blue were unable to pick up a win in doubles play, dropping three matches to Richmond and another to James Madison.
The following day, on Saturday, the Bison found more success as Tahirovic, Stavrakas and Kilmer all won their second straight singles matchups as Brendan McDonald ’26 found his first win of the weekend. Tahirovic bested his Spider opponent 7-5, 6-2; Stavrakas came from behind winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; McDonald won in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4; Kilmer’s first set was a tiebreak as he claimed a three-set victory against his Tribe opponent 7-6(8-6), 4-6, 6-3. The Orange and Blue also found their first double win of the weekend as the duo of Tahirovic and McDonald claimed a win over William & Mary’s tandem, 6-1.
On Sunday, the Bison had their best day yet, winning five of their six singles matches and all three of their doubles matches to go 8-1 on the day. Tahirovic and Stavrakas went undefeated in singles play on the weekend as McDonald won his second of the weekend. Shiv Singh ’28 and Nelson Alapi ’28 won their first singles matches of the weekend and they teamed up for a dominant victory over Navy’s duo in doubles play.
Men’s Tennis continues their season on Oct. 16-19 as they take on the ITA Regional Championships at Princeton.
