Play catch-up: Winter Break Recap

Both men’s and women’s Bison sports teams have had a productive past couple of weeks.

The men’s basketball team played 10 games and ended with a record of 5-5. The squad beat Kent State, Columbia, Colgate, Lafayette, and Holy Cross with an average margin of victory of seven points, while they lost close games to Marist, Fairfield, American, Navy, and Army by an average margin of nine points. The men will next take on Boston University in a home game tomorrow, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.

On the women’s side, the team played nine games and went 6-3. The Bison defeated Towson, Longwood, Colgate, Lafayette, Holy Cross, and Army by an average margin of 10.2 points, including two exciting buzzer beaters against Holy Cross and Army. The team lost hard-fought battles to Penn and American, along with a tight game against Navy that culminated in a heartbreaking 94-92 loss in double overtime. The women’s team will face Boston University on their home court tomorrow, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.

In swimming and diving, the men’s team went 2-2, defeating Colgate in Hamilton by a massive margin of victory (220-57) and Binghamton at home by another substantial differential of 149-92. The Bison lost to Columbia at home by a score of 172-127 and also to Army at West Point 195-105. The team will hope to come out strong away against Lehigh tomorrow, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.

The women’s swimming and diving team also had a strong showing, going 3-1. They lost at home to Rutgers by a score of 184.5-110 but defeated Colgate on the road by a score of 176-121. The Bison also defeated Army in a closely fought contest by a score of 157.5-142.5, and Binghamton by a score of 152-91. The squad will hope to carry their momentum into their away match tomorrow against Lehigh.

The men’s wrestling team suffered a 30-12 loss to No. 12 Pittsburgh on Dec. 21 and then traveled to Chattanooga, Tenn. to kick off the New Year for a two-day event on Jan. 1 and 2. The team fought hard and came in 32nd of the 34 teams with 8.0 points on the first day, and improved to 28th of 34 on the second day with 13.5 points. The team continued its season on Jan. 10 as it traveled to Hampton, Va. for three matches where it lost to No. 22 Bloomsburg (24-11) and also to The Citadel 19-18. It capped off the trip by defeating George Mason 27-9. The Bison squad resumed its season on Jan. 18 at home, beating Brown 22-19 and Clarion 24-18. Its last match was a tough 24-13 loss to Penn on Jan. 19. The Bison wrestlers will hope to rebound from the loss as they travel to take on Columbia tonight, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.

The women’s tennis team had its first match to kick off its season on Jan. 18 but suffered a tough 6-1 loss against Penn State in University Park. The team will hope to rebound on Feb. 1 against Saint Francis (Pa.).
