The women’s track and field team proved themselves as contenders for the Patriot League Championship on Feb. 14 by performing well in the Bucknell Tune-Up at Gerhard Fieldhouse. The Orange and Blue competed against Bloomsburg, Shippensburg, and Lehigh, preparing themselves for this weekend’s Patriot League Championship bout.
The Bison turned in a slew of great performances, earning seven first-place finishes and five ECAC performances. The five ECAC performances consisted of Hana Casalnova ’14 winning the 800 meter race (2:15.67), while Emily Waksmunski ’14 and Betsy Edinger ’15 claimed first and second in the 1000 meter race, finishing in 2:55.08 and 2:58.15 respectively. Emily Ando ’14 tied for first place in the women’s pole vault (11-09.75), and the 4×400 meter relay team of Jennifer Zymet ’14, Jess Bridle ’16, Allison Sharkey ’17, and Jenn Silvestri ’16 combined for the gold (3:52.82).
Three more Bison also contributed first-place finishes during the meet. Laura Papili ’17 finished first in the 500 meter race (1:19.38), while Alyssa Cardillo ’14 leaped ahead of the rest in the long jump (17-08.75). Sophia Nnadi ’16 won the weight throw with a heave of 50-09.25, and finished second in the shot put.
The Indoor Track and Field Patriot League Championship Meet at Gerhard Fieldhouse will start today at noon.
