7th Street Studio & MakerSpace hosts pop-up bullet journaling

On Aug. 29, from 7-11 p.m., the 7th Street Studio & Makerspace held a bullet journaling event.

The event encouraged students to combine their inner creativity and organization skills to design journals that would help them remain organized throughout the semester. This event also tied in with last week’s DIY Calendar Night, where students made whiteboard calendars to help them keep track of their commitments. Like the week prior, the event was held outside of the 7th Street Studio to accommodate for social distancing.

The studio supplied materials like gel pens, markers and calendar-themed stickers for the evening. The journals were plain and square, serving as a blank canvas for the artist’s vision. Some people wrote their names while others drew pictures, but everyone made a unique journal personalized to them.

“It’s a super cute event and it’s fun to watch people’s creativity come to life,” Makerspace Staff member Faith Trejo ’21 said.

Students who felt more comfortable participating in the activity at a different location could grab a to-go bag which included a journal, some stickers and a six-in-one colored pen.  The 7th Street Studio & Makerspace delivered the to-go bags to students in quarantine.

With the current uncertainties, many students found this event to be a nice escape from their everyday lives and a great way to express themselves. “When you have a lot of feelings stuck inside you, you can get it out through journaling and events,” Palma Foschi Walko ’21 said.

“The MakerSpace offers so many fun free activities that allow you to express yourself outside the classroom, even if you’re not artistic,” Catherine Craig ’23 said.

The 7th Street Studio & Makerspace has made sure to adopt social distancing protocols, such as limiting the number of people allowed in the studio at once, to keep students safe while also providing them with a creative outlet. Students can use the studio from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m.-12 a.m. on weekends.

Upcoming events at the 7th Street Studio & Makerspace include Firefly Mason Jars on Sept. 4 from 9-11 p.m. and Water Color Painting on Sept. 5 from 7-11 p.m. Both events will be held at the 7th Street Studio and are free to attend.
