Students enjoy Yard Games & Snacks at Uptown

On Aug. 29 from 7-11 p.m., the University’s Campus Activities & Programs (CAP) Center held Yard Games & Snacks at Uptown. Students ate chips, candy and cupcakes as they played Kan Jam, Spikeball and cornhole.

Uptown hosts weekly outdoor events to provide students with an opportunity to socialize while following COVID-19 safety protocols. “The events we are holding outside are a way to adapt to the social distancing guidelines and to present snacks, drinks and entertainment to the students. It’s something to do on a weekend night that isn’t a party” Jillie Santos ’22, Uptown’s assistant tech manager, said.

The event was attended by many first-year students as they look to expand their social circle beyond their hall. “It’s nice to get out of the dorms and spend time with each other,” Michael Cushing ’24 said.

“You can meet people [here] not just from the floor, but from all over as well,” Liam Moyer ’24 said.

The event was put on by CAP Core, which provides interactive and enriching activities and entertainment for the campus community. Upcoming CAP Core events include S’mores & More on Sept. 4, Keeping it Reel on Sept. 5 and Virtual Trivia on Sept. 8.
