Orange and Blue have Competitive Weekend at the Navy Invitational

On Saturday Oct. 1, the Bison’s women’s golf team shot 328 on day one of the Navy Invitational. The team was sitting at 10th place ending day one of competition.
Tara Thomas ’25 shot the best for the Orange and Blue on Saturday, shooting an 81 and getting a birdie. Sun Woo Jeon ’22 and Cristina Canales ’24 also shot very well for the Bison, both getting 82 on the first day of play.
Sahana Paravantavida ’23 shot 83, and Kayla Yi ’24 shot 88, but ended up being discarded by the Bison.
Tatum McKelvey ’23 shot an 83 as an individual on day one of competition.
“The weather was so much better than last time we competed at the Naval Academy golf course! We were also excited to have the opportunity to compete there again and show what we’ve been working on every day at practice” McKelvey said.
The top five teams leading out Saturday’s play are Richmond, Sacred Heart, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson and Navy.
The Orange and the Blue finished off their weekend play in ninth place, moving up one spot since the previous day.
The Bison shot 326 on Sunday, which is two better than their previous day’s score. Thomas shot the lowest for the Bison again on day two of the Navy Invitational, shooting a 77.
The Orange and Blue passed Wagner in the final standings, going from 10th to ninth place.
Richmond and Sacred Heart tied for first place in the competition, both shooting 607 in the combined two days of play. Navy finished in third place, with Delaware State and Monmouth both tying for fourth place.
Canales shot 82, Jeon shot 83, Paravantavida shot 84, all counting in the Bison’s scores on Sunday. Canales parred her last eight holes of the day.
“Although our scores didn’t come together as we had hoped, we all learned more about the course and are looking forward to competing there at the Patriot League Championship this spring!” McKelvey said about the competition.
The Orange and Blue have one more fall tournament on Oct. 16-17 at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
