Bison Track & Field posts strong weekend at Bison Open and Sykes & Sabock Meet

The Bison track and field team was extremely successful in the Bison Open & Multi meet, and Penn State’s Sykes & Sabock Challenge.
Brain Scotto ’25 was the headliner in the Bison Open on Saturday, earning a Bison all-time top 10 performance in the 60m hurdles. Scotto now sits at no. 6 all-time in this event, racing an 8.21 in the prelims and an 8.22 in the finals. Kameron Schreffler ’24 placed a close second, running an 8.48. The Orange and Blue also secured first place in the 5000 with Peter Sorensen ’25 running a 15:27.47.
The Bison also took first and second in the distance relay, both earning IC4A qualifying times. The first place team of Brendan O’Toole ’22, Schreffler, Alex Simpson ’24 and Samuel Whittaker ’23 ran a 10.13.84, and the second place team of Bobby Lynam ’25, Sam Coughlin ’25, Colby Belczyk ’25 and Ben Santos ’25 ran a 10:19.79.
The success at the Bison Open continued on Sunday. Ethan Wolford-Tuffy ’24 ran a 49.60 in the 400m, slotting him first place. Brett Zatlin ’22, Rayven Sample ’22 and Grant Ellis ’25 all placed second in their events to further contribute to the success on the day.
The Bison women’s team achieved similar success in the Bison Open & Multi meet, securing first and second place in the distance medley on Saturday. Lauren Trapani ’25, Katherine Loew ’25, Anna Posh ’25 and Keeley Misutka ’25 made up the first place team, and Eva Lindner ’24, Colleen Linko ’24, Hailey Tabar ’24 and Ally Clarke ’24 made up the second place team.
Siobhan O’Sullivan ’24 posted an excellent performance in the shotput, moving up in the Bison’s all-time list from ninth to eighth with a score of 45-11.25, earning second place at the meet.
On Sunday, Michaela Bracken ’22 posted an ECAC qualifying time in the 500 with a time of 1:15.46. This time also ranks ninth on the Bison’s top 10 list. Mackenzie Turner ’23 ran the 800 in 2:18.53, earning her first place on the day.
At the Sykes & Sabock meet Ashlyn Ramos ’22 took first place in the 3,000 and placed second on the school’s top 10 list racing a 9:35.59. Three other Bison earned top 10 slots during the Penn State meet. Jenny Scott ’23 sits at seventh all-time pole vault as she cleared 11-10.5. Jessie Castellano ’23 posted the eighth best 400 time in Bison history with a time of 57.08.
The men were also extremely successful at the Penn State Sykes & Sabock meet. Colby Belczyk ’25 finished just short of a University top-10 time in the 800, running a 1:53.03. Alex Simpson ’24 finished closely behind with a personal best 1:54.33.
Samuel Whittaker ’23 added a career high as well in the mile, with a 4:16.15. Robert Feeney ’24 posted a 56-11.25 in weight throw, a career best for him as well.
The Orange and Blue men’s and women’s track squads will be back in action Feb. 11 and 12 at the VMI invite in Lexington, Virginia.
