Local public broadcast station to feature Lewisburg in “Our Town” series
February 11, 2022
For students at the Bucknell the local community of Lewisburg is part of their academic home.
WVIA, a PBS and NPR affiliate that covers roughly 22 counties in Pennsylvania, will feature the borough of Lewisburg in their “Our Town” series. The episode will mimic a one-hour video scrapbook that will highlight people, places and events that make Lewisburg the city that it is, according to a WVIA press release.
“Our Town Lewisburg” invited local residents to attend the first community and volunteer meeting on Thursday, Feb. 10, where they discussed which features of the borough, events and stories that residents wanted to see, hear and feel through the program.
Residents were invited to bring questions for WVIA representatives at the meeting and they were asked to bring ideas of what to film.
The release said that on Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. a second meeting will be held at Community Partnerships by WVIA, with a new snow date of Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will focus much more on the community brainstorming aspect, as well as planning which volunteers will film which scenes. WVIA is looking for roughly 20 to 25 residents with their own recording devices, not cell phones, to participate.
Participants will be required to wear masks to each meeting.
Any student or local that is interested in volunteering as a videographer or a storyteller can reach out to producer Lisa Mazzarella at [email protected].
Molly Tuthill ’24, an economics and political science double major, is interning with WVIA during the filming of this program. She said she is looking forward to learning the “ins and outs of the radio industry.”
“I have always loved journalism and I am excited to get involved in the community. Lewisburg has so much history with such unique people so I am sure that this series will shed light on the different lives of the many people in our community,” Tuthill said.
Other local communities that have been highlighted in the “Our Town” series include Milton, Danville and Sunbury. DVDs are available through the WVIA website, as well as short descriptions of each of their episodes.
