The Bison women’s lacrosse team had its last home game of the season this past Saturday, April 23, facing the Boston University Terriers on Graham Field. While it was an exciting overtime game, the Bison could not secure the victory, falling to the Terriers 11-10. The Orange and Blue now sit at 6-9 on the season and 3-5 in Patriot League play.

The team came out strong from the opening whistle, scoring four goals in the first quarter, courtesy of Katie Wendell ’22 (2) as well as Laurel McHale ’22 (1) and Taylor Kopan ’24 (1). The Terriers were then able to put two goals of their own on the board, narrowing the Bison lead 4-2 heading into the second quarter. A key goal by Caroline Miller ’23 on a feed from McHale gave the Bison their largest lead of the afternoon at 7-3 with under two minutes left in the half. The Bison allowed the Terriers to score once more afterwards but still held the lead, heading into halftime up 7-4. 

Following the break, it was evident that the Terriers were fired up. The Orange and Blue only scored one goal in the third quarter to the Terriers’ four, evening the game at 8-8. The game-tying goal for Boston came right at the buzzer, sending a tie match into the fourth quarter. After a scoreless eight minutes, Tatumn Kohlbrenner ’24 returned the Bison to the board, now leading 9-8. But two quick and unanswered goals by the Terriers caused the Orange and Blue to fall behind 9-10 with only 32 seconds left in regulation. The Bison were not ready to give up, however, as Miller scored a remarkable goal with 12 seconds left to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, it only took the Terriers 48 seconds into overtime to secure the victory, leaving Lewisburg with an 11-10 overtime win.

Prior to the game, the Bison recognized their ten seniors: Katie Wendell, Emma Cashwell ’22, Laurel McHale, Meredith Murphy ’22, Eva Macris ’22, Abby Neff ’22, Macie Ruda ’22, Amy Roche ’22, Emily Sullivan ’22 and Caitlin Tucker ’22. When asked about the impact that the seniors have had on the program, Emily Baird ’24 added that they “have really changed the culture of the team and made such a big impact on and off the field. It’s going to be a big adjustment without them next year, but they’ve left an amazing legacy and have been great role models for the underclassmen,” Baird said.

The Bison will finish out the regular season with one last game on the road at Holy Cross, set for 4 p.m. on Friday, April 29. This is a must-win for the Orange and Blue that is critical in determining Patriot League playoff standings.
