Women’s Basketball’s win streak continues

Bucknell women’s basketball picked back up Feb. 8 against Navy at home. Cecilia Collins ’25 led with 20 points and Emma Shaffer ’23 and Tai Johnson ’23 both scored in the double digits to contribute to the Bison’s 70-49 victory.
The first quarter resulted in a 19-4 lead for the Orange and Blue. Collins hit a three-pointer 29 seconds into the game to set the tone for what would come the rest of the night. The four points by Navy were the fewest points scored in a quarter by the team this season.
Navy was able to get within seven points during the second quarter, after draining back to back threes early in the period. The Bison responded with a 10-2 run to close out the half.
The third quarter looked very similar to the first half, with an immediate 8-0 run by Shaffer, Emma Theodorsson ’26 and Isabella King ’24. The Bison managed to lead by 22 points, the biggest point differential of the night.
Navy came out strong to start the final quarter of the game. They managed to narrow the Bison lead to 59-45. Johnson, Shaffer, Collins and King managed an 8-0 run to seal the deal.
Following the win against Navy, the Bison traveled to upstate New York to take on Colgate. Collins and Shaffer each had impressive performances yet again. Collins led with 17 points and Shaffer finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds (her sixth career double-double). King and Johnson also played key roles in the Bison’s comeback win.
Throughout the first quarter, Colgate and Bucknell traded baskets back and forth. This came to an end when Remi Sisselman ’25 pulled off an impressive three point play. The first quarter ended 11-8 with the Bison ahead.
Colgate took control early in the second quarter with a 4-0 run. This was soon responded to by the Orange and Blue with their own 7-2 run. After this, both teams struggled to score until Colgate pulled off a layup on a fast break. Collin’s had seven of her 17 points in the second quarter. The half ended with Bison up 22-18.
Colgate managed to take back the lead closer to the end of the quarter, making the score 26-25. Shaffer pulled off a three pointer to help recapture the lead and set in motion an 9-0 Bison run. The score was 34-26 when Colgate responded with their own run to take a 36-35 lead to end the third quarter.
King’s first and only three points came in the fourth quarter to put the Bison up one final time. The Bison went on to hold the lead, points coming from Johnson, on a layup, and Shaffer, on a free throw. Colgate pulled off a couple points but would never come close enough. The Bison finished by making six free throws and finished with a 50-44 win.
The Bison now have a record of 11-13 and 7-6 in Patriot League play. The Orange and Blue look to keep up this strong play in their next game on Feb. 18 against Boston University.
