Women’s Lacrosse battles top-ranked Army

Bison Women’s Lacrosse traveled to West Point, N.Y. on April 8 to face-off against No. 14 Army. In a highly contested match, the Orange and Blue remained neck and neck with the Black Knights until the final quarter. The Bison fell late to a 15-7 defeat.

After upsetting the Black Knights in last year’s match up, the Bison knew they were in for an intense match. The Orange and Blue gained an early 2-0 lead in the opening five minutes, with goals from Allie Boyce ’25 and Katie Browne ’26. Army then scored the next three goals, giving them the slight lead. The game was tied on four different occasions in the first half, with Army holding the slight 7-6 lead at the half.

Coming out of halftime, the Orange and Blue were met with an onslaught of Black Knight goals. Army scored the first goal of the third quarter, followed by a Taylor Kopan ’24 goal for the Bison. This would be the last Orange and Blue goal of the match, however, as the Black Knights controlled the remainder of the game. Army would tally two more goals in the third and five goals in the fourth quarter, leading them to a 15-7 victory.

“The team played great in the first half,” Emily Baird ’24 said. “We were only down by one at halftime to a 14 ranked team. Unfortunately, in the second half, our offense was unable to finish shots, and defense got tired as Army went on a run.”

Despite the challenging loss, the Bison remain optimistic about the future.

“This week we will work on connecting all positions on the field to earn a team win this weekend,” Baird said.

The Orange and Blue return to Graham Field at Holmes Stadium on Saturday, April 15 to face off against American University. The match is in recognition of the Bison seniors and a celebration will take place prior to the game. The Orange and Blue will then remain home for a weeknight matchup against Loyola on April 19.
