Men’s Lacrosse defeats Crusaders
April 20, 2023
This past weekend Bucknell Men’s Lacrosse faced up against Holy Cross for another Patriot league game of the season. The Bison entered the game 1-4 in league play, while Holy Cross stood at 0-5.
The Bison led the game in the first half, scoring two goals in the first quarter and six goals in the second, while the Crusaders could only put up four goals in the first half.
The Bison held a 16-3 shot advantage over Holy cross in the half. Even with the late push of the last three goals in the second quarter, it was tough to come back from the Bucknell advantage.
The Bison continued their momentum in the beginning of the third quarter and quickly fired up three shots to increase their lead to 11-5. However, the Crusaders were motivated by this gap and retaliated by scoring five goals in return, leaving the score at 11-10 at the end of the quarter for Bucknell.
The Orange and Blue were more motivated now then ever and scored five unanswered goals in the beginning of the final quarter.
Holy Cross was able to find two more goals before time ran out, but it was not enough to overcome the Bison as they won with a score of 18-12.
This placed them as a higher seed in the Patriot League standing to enter the Patriot League Tournament.
Overall, the Bison had 63 shots with 42 on goal, a season high for the team. Brendan Coyle ’24 also secured 18 out of 31 faceoffs for the team.
Jack Feda ’23 scored a career-high six goals in the game that assisted the team with the win.
Dutch Furlong ’24 was able to get five points on four assists and one goal for the game.
Will Hopkins ’26 was able to secure his third hat trick of his rookie year and provided an assist for the Bison.
Danny Striano ’23 was also able to match his season high of seven ground balls, while Coyle collected six.
Jaz Zanelli ’26 made 13 saves in the match.
“We had a little bit of a lapse in the third quarter,” Feda said. “The season was on the line and the team responded with a roar. It was a huge fourth quarter from Will Hopkins and the rest of the offense. We need to have this mindset this week. Lafayette is a win and we are in the game for the Patriot League Tournament. Looking forward to Friday night under the lights!”
Bucknell Men’s Lacrosse will next face Lafayette this Friday at their home turf.
