After leading the Bison football team to an impressive victory over Cornell this past Saturday, running back and team captain Coleman Bennett ’24 has been named this week’s Bison of the Week. Bennett played a crucial role in the take down of the Big Red.
Bennett totaled 157 yards in his performance last Saturday. This marks the most yards rushed by a player since 2017. After running the ball 29 times, Bennett averaged 5.4 yards per carry, contributing to almost half of the Bison’s offensive plays. Bennett’s 29 carries also marks the most by a single player since 2016 (31 times).
Bennett stunned the Cornell defense on each run. Six times he went for 14 yards or more. Three times he ran for over 20 yards. He also carried the ball nine times for a total of 76 yards on the Bison’s first scoring drive, one run totaling 27-yards on a 3rd-and-14.
As if the captain title wasn’t enough, Bennett currently leads the team in rushing and kicking return yards and is third in receiving yards this season. He is one of the best players in the Patriot League and ninth in all of FCS. This also marks his second time being named Bison of the Week in his collegiate career.
In his last two games he has rushed over 100 yards and is close to touching 1,00 career yards. He holds onto five career touchdowns, two of which he has scored this season.
