DC Coffee and Tea Co.:
DC Coffee and Tea Co. is a coffee shop and diner combo that is on the left of Route 45 towards Mifflinburg. DC Coffee was recommended by multiple Bucknellians, both students and professors, as a local hotspot to grab fun drinks and good food. With both drive-thru and sit-down options, DC Coffee attracts many. Touting breakfast served all day, we knew we had to drive out to Mifflinburg to see for ourselves if DC was worth the hype.
The menu offered a variety of drink options to choose from, with various size selections as well as iced and hot drinks. Along with fun names, such as “Funky Monkey” and “Moose on the Loose,” DC Coffee and Tea Co. offered coffee orders like Cafe Breve and Almond Joy that we had not seen at other cafes we had reviewed.
Beyond their extensive selection, there was a featured Fall menu that had you falling in love with every sip. There were five total drinks from coffees to teas: Cinnamon Dutch Apple Pie Latte, Autumn Toasted Marshmallow Latte, Oatmeal Cookie, Carrot Cake Chai and Peachy Delight. We got one latte and one chai, as chai is difficult to come by on campus.
The Carrot Cake Chai consisted of toffee nut, vanilla chai and cinnamon sprinkle. It was as if you were drinking the liquid form of carrot cake. On the other hand, the Autumn Toasted Marshmallow Latte was made of pumpkin and toasted marshmallow flavors. The drink boasted strong notes of sweetness and savory hints of coffee. And while we operate as a coffee corner, Grace was hungry and ordered pumpkin pancakes with bacon, which was a wonderful choice— simple, soft and delicious.
Our ranking is 2.3 out of 5 – while we were disappointed on the drink front, the pumpkin pancakes were a hit!
Flavor – The flavors of both of the drinks were strong and sweet. The chai was overwhelmingly sweet, with strong flavors of vanilla and toffee nut piercing through the cinnamon spice elements of your classic chai. The coffee needed a good mix, as the first few sips were a delicious harmony of syrup and coffee, but later on became sweeter and sweeter.
Fun – The decorations in the dining room were interesting, raising many questions about decor choice and political correctness in the Susquehanna River Valley. There were a variety of seasonal items to choose from, with fall drink and breakfast options featuring pumpkin, maple and apple flavors prominently.
Fame – DC Coffee and Tea Co. seems to be a common spot for locals in the surrounding towns. There were many people grabbing food and drinks in the dining room and a small line in the drive-thru. This spot does not seem to be well known by students on Bucknell’s campus, so if you are looking to get away from Bucknellians, this might be the spot for you.
Funds – The drinks here are definitely not for your everyday cup of coffee. The chai came out to a little over $8 and the coffee was around $6, and we both got a small size. This might be because we ordered off the specialty menu, but we recommend going somewhere else to get a more budget-friendly fun drink!
