On Saturday, Nov. 16, Bucknell Men’s Soccer hosted Colgate at home on Emmitt Field for the Patriot League Championship. After a well-fought game, Bucknell was crowned victorious for their 3-0 win.
This season was especially remarkable for the Bison, going from worst in the league last year to first in this one. It was the biggest turnaround between seasons in the 92-year history of the Bucknell Men’s Soccer program.
Bucknell was one of two Division 1 teams in the country to go from last place in 2023 to first in the regular season and become league champions.
The first goal for the Bison came from Waldemar Kattrup ’25 in the 11th minute of the game. Jack Lucas ’27 spotted Kattrup at the top of the box and, once receiving the ball, Kattrup nailed a left-footed strike.
After the first goal, Bucknell controlled the rest of the game.
Colgate only had one good scoring chance in the 52nd minute, but Freddie Lapworth ’26 made an incredible save to turn it away.
Around the 60th minute, Drew Roskos ’28 smashed home a rebound shot originally from David Krumov ’27 to make it 2-0.
At the 76-minute mark, Bucknell made it a 3-0 game with a goal from Nick Prime ’25 and began to feel the win in their grasp.
When the clock counted down to zero, Captain Jack Roberto ’25 launched the ball up in the air as the student section stormed the field to celebrate with the team.
Before the team raised the Patriot League Champions trophy, awards were given out to Aidan Lawlor ’25, Lapworth, Roskos and Krumov for being named to the All-Tournament Team. Additionally, Lawlor was named Tournament MVP.
