It was another successful weekend for the Bison as Men’s Tennis took on John Hopkins and Morgan State, leaving two more victories under their belt. This puts the Orange and Blue at 4-2 for their season so far, including historic victories such as those against Army two weekends ago.
The team headed to South Williamsport on Saturday, Feb. 8, to face Johns Hopkins at the Central Pa. Tennis Center. While the Bison lost the doubles point, they squared up in the singles matches to take five points and claim a team victory. While Amar Tahirovic ’26 and Brendan McDonald ’26 barely lost their doubles match 4-6, Adam Stavrakas ’26 and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 took a win in their paired match, 7-5. However, the final doubles team Nelson Alapi ’28 and Felix Steindl ’28 lost 6-7, giving the total doubles point to the Blue Jays.
Despite the rough start, the Bison persevered as they proceeded to take singles matches, court by court. Stavrakas took a clean win in his singles match, going 6-2, 6-3. Tahirovic followed suit by going 6-1, 6-2 against his Johns Hopkins competitor. Both Stavrakas and Tahirovic have won Bison of the Week honors this spring season already and continued to show why this past weekend. Still, the Orange and Blue persisted with the match, as Bain also claimed a win in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6. McDonald defeated his Blue Jay opponent 6-2, 7-6. On court five, Liam Kilmer ’27 won in two sets, 6-2, 6-2. This left the Bison with a determined 5-2 victory for the day.
On Sunday, the team returned to play Morgan State. The Orange and Blue started dominant, winning all three doubles matches. Tahirovic and McDonald won 6-3, while pairs Stavrakas and Shiv Singh ’28 and Kilmer and Steindl both won their matches 6-4. This gave the Bison the first point towards their powerhouse victory.
The singles matches were just as strong, as Stavrakas won 6-1, 6-1. His strong performances this weekend awarded him Patriot League Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors two weeks in a row. Teammates McDonald and Steindl also won their matches in two sets, finishing 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-4 respectively. Singh, Kilmer, and Tahirovic also played in singles but went unfinished once the Bison totaled victory. The team defeated Morgan State 4-0, leaving them with another win for the season.
The Bison will continue their successful season at home Friday and Sunday this weekend against Drexel and Binghamton.
