Bison Women’s Basketball topped Lafayette last Saturday, Feb. 15, in a home game matchup. This win marks their third consecutive win and improves their record to 14-10.
It only took 38 seconds for the Bison to grab the first lead of the game after a quick jump shot from Tuana Coskun ’27. Over the course of the first quarter, the team’s offense pushed their lead even further and they led 20-14 as the quarter ended. Lafayette saw a 5-0 run to get them back in the game. The Bison were leading 32-23 when the Leopards went on another run, this time putting up seven points to force a one-possession game going into the half.
After halftime, both teams struggled to make anything happen offensively. Lafayette managed to tie the game up off a jumper. The Orange and Blue sank three free throws to take back their lead, but the game was tied up again after a three-pointer from Lafayette. This would mark the final tie of the game as the Bison finally got their scoring momentum started with a 10-0 run. Reese Zemitis ’28 led the run with five points, and Coskun added a trey. The score read 50-40 as the teams began the fourth and final quarter.
Isabella King ’25 hit two consecutive three-pointers to prevent any comeback from Lafayette at the start of the fourth. As the game approached the final buzzer the Bison led 58-51. Lafayette missed three crucial shots which were countered by Ashley Sofilkanich ’27 scoring two baskets. The Orange and Blue defeated Lafayette 62-51.
King led with 14 points and 10 rebounds, marking her first ever double-double. She made four of seven three-point attempts. The Bison grabbed 38 rebounds over Lafayette’s 28. Elana Weisman ’28 recorded three herself coming off the bench.
The Bison currently hold onto a third place tie with Colgate in the Patriot League. Catch them next as they hit the road to face Army Saturday afternoon.
