Where We Went:
This week, we ventured over to Mifflinburg to head to a Bucknell favorite ice cream spot, Old Mill Creamery, LLC. While it takes around 15 minutes on Route 192 to get to Old Mill, my goodness, is it worth it. If you have ever been to Bucknell’s property at Cowan, then you have passed Old Mill on your turn in. They have a variety of ice cream flavors for a reasonable price. A local dairy farm since 1993, Old Mill produces a variety of milk, cheeses and ice cream, which they sell in their ice cream shop and drive-thru window. Grace and Grace drove out there in Grace’s beloved Honda CR-V (named Mario!) to get our sweet treat for this column for the last time. While this may not be strictly coffee, you know we would find a way to get it involved in our final Grace and Grace’s Coffee Corner.
What We Ordered:
There were many delicious options to choose from, from fun fruity flavors to rich creamy options. There were two coffee ice cream flavors available — regular coffee and chocolate espresso. Grace opted for a scoop of chocolate espresso with a waffle cone, while Grace got a scoop of peanut butter oreo, also on a waffle cone.
Overall Rating: FIVE STARS!!!!! WE LOVE OLD MILL, AND WE LOVE ICE CREAM!
Flavor: Both of the ice cream scoops were delicious! Each was filled with their respective toppings, the pieces of espresso beans offering a nice crunch and the chunks of oreo competing with the peanut butter. We both had to get the waffle cone, as they were making them fresh when we walked in! Grace also got some homemade sour cream and onion chips, which were both thin and flavorful. She also got a pint of chocolate milk, another recommendation.
Fame: While its location is not as accessible compared to other ice cream shops in Lewisburg, Old Mill Creamery is a tried and true spot! We didn’t run into any Bucknellians during our trip, but we know our friends have definitely made a visit or two (or three) out there for some ice cream. There were many locals who were frequenting the shop, whether to get a cup of coffee or a scoop of ice cream to cool down on the hot day.
Fun: Old Mill is an awesome spot! Right on Rapid Run, there is great seating by the creek, with benches, picnic tables and Adirondack chairs in which to enjoy your ice cream. It is a nice drive out, and once there, you can indulge in a variety of fun, interesting and classically Pennsylvania flavors like Vanilla Grape Nut, Teaberry, Salted Caramel Pretzel and many more.
Funds: Each scoop of ice cream on a waffle cone came out to $3.54, which we think is really, really good! From the size of the scoop to the quality of the ice cream and cone, we believe it was well worth all 354 cents.
Our final top three ranking (strictly coffee… unfortunately)
1- Culture Coffee (Lewisburg, Pa.)
2- Wagging Tail Coffee (Allenwood, Pa.)
3- IV Coffee (Sunbury, Pa.)
Thank you to all six of our supporters who faithfully read our column this past year (Linda, Todd, Lauren, Katrina, Brent Papson and Dr. Sally).
