Jesse Klug ’16 of the men’s soccer team has had an outstanding first two years at the University as a forward. If the first six games of his junior campaign are foretelling for the rest of the season, Klug’s third year on the pitch may be his best yet. The men’s soccer team now stands at a record of 4-2, and Klug has made a significant impact in each game so far. The team’s match against Howard on Sept. 13 provided the context for Klug to truly shine as he celebrated a career-best afternoon with one goal and three assists in the 4-0 victory.

He played 53 minutes against Howard, netting the second goal of the game in the 56th minute. Klug’s passing skills are also supreme, as he found Patrick Figgie ’16 in the first half and both Chris Thorsheim ’16 and Jonathan Grad ’15 in the second half for his three assists on the day.

Klug began his career on a high note, starting every game as striker and standing as one of the top rookies in the Patriot League. Klug scored three goals and had four assists throughout the season in addition to earning a Patriot League Rookie of the Week award.

Klug arrived back for his sophomore campaign, living up to all expectations with a fantastic season. Two of his accolades include First Team All-Patriot League and First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region Honors, as Klug ranked first on the team and second in the Patriot League with 10 goals. What set Klug apart from any other forward was his work ethic. He led the Patriot League with 90 shot attempts last season compared to the second-best at 62, showing how relentless and motivated he truly is.

Currently in his third year with the Bison, Klug leads the team in many statistical categories. He leads the Bison in goals, assists, points, shots, shots on goal, and game-winning goals (tied with Figgie). Klug’s 32 shots, nine points, and three assists are also the most or tied for the most in the Patriot League.

Klug comes from an extremely talented class, and its collective impact will be quite dangerous in these next two seasons. With their sights set on nothing short of a Patriot League Championship, the Bison will look to Klug to secure the ball in the back of the net and a ring on their fingers.

“The motivation to win comes from the team and the individual. It’s a huge commitment, so if you don’t want to personally improve, you won’t succeed. But you also want to improve every day for your teammates,” Klug said.

As a 2014 Preseason All-Patriot League selection, Klug will do anything possible to improve throughout the season and show why his name deserves to be on that list at the end of the year.
