Former Class of 2016 student Jeffrey (Jay) Schneider passed away on Nov. 16 from a motorcycle accident, according to the Third Squad of the Nassau County Police Department.

Schneider, 21, was ejected from his motorcycle and struck a large tree after his motorcycle’s front tire hit rock, according to detectives.

Schneider made a significant impression on his classmates in the short amount of time he was at the University.

“He truly made an impression with his goofy, but truly thoughtful and considerate personality,” Amy Patterson ’16 said.

Patterson lived across the hall from Schneider during her first year.

Schneider was known for his easygoing personality, spontaneity, and culinary skills.

“He had the biggest personality on the hall … He made me shrimp with pepper flakes once. I couldn’t handle the spice and he jokingly laughed at me,” April Htut ’15, Schneider’s first-year Residential Adviser, said.

Schneider attended the University for the entirety of the 2012-2013 academic school year.

“Your continued outpouring of love and support have meant a great deal to us,” Bonnie Bowes, a relative of Schneider, wrote on his Facebook wall.
