Buy Low:
Marcin Gortat, C (WSH): Gortat might not be a piling up the points right now, but he is still scoring at an efficient rate (58.9 percent over the past month). Owners might be looking to trade him when he’s scoring single digits per game, but he could be a nice steal, especially as the Wizards fight for a better seed down the stretch.
Jordan Hill, PF/C (LAL): The only Laker to start every game all season, Hill will certainly get more looks with Kobe Bryant out for the season. Bred for consistency, we could see his averages in points (12.2) and rebounds (8.0) increase over the next few months. And with Bryant gone, we know there’ll be plenty more shots to go around.
Sell High:
Klay Thompson, SG/SF (GS): Everybody is overreacting to one quarter, a quarter in which Thompson scored a record 37 points on 13-13 shooting. Let’s just remember that Thompson averages less than four rebounds and assists and that anybody can have one overly-amazing game–Mo Williams scored 52 points just a couple weeks ago.
Hassan Whiteside, PF/C (MIA): I’ve been able to reap the benefits of Whiteside over the past few weeks, but he is a perfect sell high candidate. He is a monster in the paint and racks up the blocks and rebounds, but for every double-double he records, there’s also a good chance that he drops in a goose-egg. Sell high.
Start ‘Em:
Elfrid Payton, PG (ORL): The rookie point guard has really come on as of late, contributing in several key categories. Averaging a modest 13.1 points over the past 15 days, Payton’s managed to maintain a 50 percent field goal percentage with 8.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 steals over that same span.
Jared Sullinger, PF/C (BOS): With at least eight rebounds and double digit scoring in every game since Jan. 10, Sullinger has become the focal point of this Celtic offense since Rajon Rondo’s departure. He will continue to earn more minutes down the stretch, and his rebounding average of 8.2 per game will increase as well.
Sit ‘Em:
Lance Stephenson, SG (CHA): In six games since returning from a pelvic injury, Stephenson has topped four assists or eight points only twice. He will continue to come off the bench, but this Charlotte team just does not seem to have faith in Stephenson, as he is still on the trade market. It’s best to keep him benched for now.
Dwyane Wade, SG (MIA): Wade has steadily slowed down over the past month, which shouldn’t come as a surprise for the 33-year-old. Wade is averaging his most turnovers since ’08-’09 and his least rebounds in his career. Add in his recent hamstring injury, and he surely won’t be at full strength when he does play.
