Fantasy Corner
February 12, 2015
Who’s Hot
D. J. Augustin, PG (DET): Augustin has played very successfully in the starting lineup since Brandon Jennings’s season-ending injury. The point guard has posted 20-point performances in four of his past five games while dishing out 11 or more assists in three of those games. Throw in an 86.7 FT percent, and he should not be a fantasy free agent.
Russell Westbrook, PG (OKC): As Oklahoma City tries to fight its way back into the playoffs, Westbrook continues to do his part. No one needs to tell Westbrook not to shoot, as he has a pair of 45 and 48-point games in February already. He contributes well in several key categories as he is a few rebounds and assists away from averaging a triple double.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, SG/SF (MIL): The Greek Freak has posted double digit scoring in eight straight games and at least 10 rebounds in four of those games. En route to his Eastern Conference Player of the Week award, Antetokounmpo has averaged 19.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks since Feb. 2.
Robert Covington, SF/PF (PHI): One of the bright young stars in Philadelphia is Covington, whose 3.5 3PM per game in the past week are third most in the NBA. He’s also been able to grab 7.5 rebounds and score 19 points per game over that span, but is still available in more than 52 percent of leagues.
Who’s Not
Nick Young, SG/SF (LAL): Swaggy P hasn’t been living up to his self-made name lately, as he hasn’t recorded more than four combined assists and rebounds since Jan. 23. His 36.7 season shooting percentage has dropped to a measly 28.6 percent over the past 15 days. He cannot even record a single steal at the moment.
Deron Williams, PG (BKN): Williams’ performance has declined since returning from injury last month. The once all-star has become a fantasy afterthought, shooting just 26.2 percent in his return. Averaging just 3.8 points per game the past four games, keep him on the bench until he performs otherwise.
Al Jefferson, C (CHA): The big center isn’t necessarily playing poorly right now, but he’s just not at the level we expect to see him at. Not bad, just not what we expect. His 17.5 PPG are his least since 2009-10, while his 8.5 RPG are his least since 2005-06. Even his FG percentage isn’t sub-par lately, just 49.0 percent the past month for the big man.
Paul Pierce, SF/PF (WSH): Age has finally caught up to this NBA champion, and the Wizards aren’t going to overexert Pierce. Seeing the least playing time in his career (26.8 MPG), the small forward is posting career lows in points (12.4), steals (0.7), assists (2.0), and rebounds (4.3).
