Feurstein named Writing Program Director
April 2, 2015
Abe Feuerstein has been appointed as Writing Program Director for the Fall 2015 semester. As a former Education Department Chair and Associate Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences from 2008-2013, Feuerstein has been an integral part of the Bucknell faculty since 1996.
“I was interested in the position because of the centrality of the teaching of writing in the liberal arts curriculum. Helping students become better writers is perhaps one of the most important things that we do at Bucknell and the Writing Requirement is the only graduation requirement that is common to all Bucknell students,” Feuerstein said.
The Writing Program encompasses W1 and W2 courses across many disciplines. Course development is a result of the Composition Council, a group composed of faculty from all areas of study across campus. The Writing Program Director leads this committee and serves in the position for a three-year term.
“As the director of the Writing Program, I hope to further the excellent progress that Writing Program has made in evaluating the quality of student writing across campus and in providing faculty members with meaningful opportunities to reflect on and improve the way they teach writing,” Feuerstein said.
