Two walk-off wins highlighted the baseball team’s seven-game home stand from April 18-22. After the Bison took one of four games over Lafayette on April 18-19, Rob Krentzman ’15 came through with a walk-off single that gave the Bison a 4-3 win (10 innings) over St. Bonaventure on April 21. Anthony Gingerelli ’15 engineered a walk-off hit of his own in the Bison’s 7-6 win over Towson on April 22.

Bryson Hough ’15, the program’s all-time leader in innings pitched, struck out six Leopards in game one of the Lafayette series. The Bison took a 2-1 lead after Gingerelli brought home two teammates on an RBI single in the third. Unfortunately, Lafayette scored runs in the next three innings to take the game 4-2.

“Going into this weekend I knew I had to have all of my pitches working because Lafayette is a very good fastball hitting team and I remembered that from my subpar outing last year,” Xavier Hammond ’15 said.

The Orange and Blue bounced back in a 3-1 win during game two after Jon Mayer ’16, Greg Wasikowski ’15, and Krentzman each earned an RBI. Hammond struck out six in a complete game for the Bison.

“I was able to have a really good three-pitch mix throughout all of the game—fastball, change-up, and slider. I was able to command my fastball to both sides of the plate with my best velocity of the year. By doing that, it automatically makes my off-speed pitches better because hitters have to be able to catch up to my fastball which means they are not able to sit off-speed,” Hammond said.

Nine senior players were honored before game three. Jake Archey ’15, Jordan Holtz ’15, Tucker Rekucki ’15, Alex O’Neill ’15, Hough, Krentzman, Wasikowski, Gingerelli, and Hammond comprise the Bison senior class.

Lafayette spoiled the festivities with two wins in the second doubleheader. In game three, the Leopards led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, which saw Krentzman score on a ground out by Wasikowski to cut the lead to one. The Leopards eventually closed out the game to prevent the tying run.

Brett Smith ’17 led the Bison with three RBIs in game four, but Lafayette reeled off five runs at the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach and take a 7-4 victory in the finale.

After dropping the first game of the St. Bonaventure doubleheader 6-3, Krentzman earned the clutch hit in the following game on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning. Prior to the decisive run, Gingerelli blasted two home runs along with Joe Ogren ’16 who had a homer of his own.

The Orange and Blue capped off a solid week with a walk-off victory over Towson. They trailed 4-0 after three innings, but posted five runs in the bottom of the fourth to set the stage for an exciting finish. With the game tied 6-6 going into the bottom of the ninth, Gingerelli doubled the ball to left center field and brought Smith home for the game winner.

The Bison (21-21, 5-11 PL) close out the regular season in a four-game series at Holy Cross on April 25-26.
