Fall Lineup: Big Names Come to Campus

The Campus Activities and Programs (CAP) Center announced its official line-ups for Fall Fest, Center Stage, and the Fall Concert this past month. Some big names, from the likes of Matt and Kim, Wanda Sykes, Walk the Moon, and Wiz Khalifa will make their respective appearances in Lewisburg this fall. Matt and Kim will headline Fall Fest on Sept. 11, Sykes will headline Center Stage on Oct. 3, and Khalifa and Walk the Moon will share the spotlight for the Fall Concert on Nov. 6.

Associate Dean of Students Kari Conrad said that it is a rare occurrence for artists to be secured for all three events at the very beginning of the year. It’s an occurrence that Conrad can only attribute to “magic.”

After taking student requests and poll results into account, the CAP Center announced Matt and Kim as the musical performer for Fall Fest on Aug. 22 at the Activities Unlimited fair. This free, annual event was planned by the joint efforts of the CAP Center and Activities and Campus Events (A.C.E.). Fall Fest will take place on Sept. 11 from 5-10 p.m. on the Sojka Lawn. Students can expect a lot of free food, fun games and giveaways, carnival games, rides and other student performers at this event. Last year’s performer, Andy Grammer, drew great crowds despite rain.

It was also announced at Activities Unlimited that Wanda Sykes will headline at Center Stage this year. This additional free event, which showcases the talents of student performers and has previously featured famous comedians from SNL, will take place on Oct. 3 in the Gerhard Fieldhouse. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and University student performers will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Sykes will perform at 9 p.m.

At Center Stage, not only can students enjoy the entertainment provided by the performers, but they can also indulge in treats like cookie dough on a stick, soup and breadsticks, and hot chocolate.

“Center Stage as an event is meant to be a great late-night social space for our community to celebrate comedy. The student performers and fun food ahead of time definitely make this event more than just a comedy act, and instead a great spot to hang around with friends and enjoy the fall at Bucknell!” Assistant Director of Campus Activities and Programs Chelsea Brown said.

Finally, the University’s Concert Committee in collaboration with the CAP Center announced on Aug. 24 that Walk the Moon and Wiz Khalifa will be co-headlining this year’s Fall Concert. Walk the Moon, famously known for its number one hit, “Shut Up and Dance,” and Pittsburgh native Khalifa have already drawn great hype from students.

The Fall Concert will take place on Nov. 6 in the Gerhard Fieldhouse. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for University students will go on sale on Sept. 9 for $30, and for the rest of the community on Sept. 14 for $40. Students can purchase their tickets at the CAP Center, the Weis Center, or the online Box Office on the University website.

Students and administration alike seem to be very enthusiastic about the line-up for this year’s concerts.

“I saw Walk the Moon in concert before and they were great, so I’m really excited for them to come to Bucknell,” Libby Warner ’18 said.

Conrad believes that the “variety is great and that early student reaction leads us to believe that each of the events will be received well by one and all.”
