The Bison had an exceptional start to their fall season at the Bucknell Quad Tournament on Sept 5-6. They hosted Loyola University (Md.), Mount St. Mary’s, Colgate, Concordia, and IUP. The tournament consisted of three flights in the singles bracket (A, B, and C) and two flights in the doubles bracket (A and B).

Melissa Parks ’17 and Maria Cioffi ’16 won the title in the Flight B doubles bracket. They breezed through the first round with an 8-0 win over Colgate. They also clinched the championship title with an 8-5 win over Concordia.

Parks also had a great performance in the singles bracket. Although she lost her first match, she ended up winning the consolation bracket with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Colgate. Other notable performances in the singles bracket were Lisa Jouravleva ’18, Cioffi, Mishi Papich ’19, and Danielle Gannon ’19. All of them advanced after the first round, but were eliminated before the final round.

“I felt that we had some strong performances, but there are obviously some areas we really need to improve on, mostly in our single play,” head coach Rebecca Helt said.

After a great season opener, the Bison hope to continue on improving their play at the St. Joseph’s Invitational on Sept. 11-13.
