The women’s tennis team finished with four championship titles in the Bison Invite on Sept. 25-26. Two of the titles were in the doubles brackets and two in the singles. Three of the matches featured Bison players facing their own teammates, which was a huge bounce back after not having won a title on their home courts the weekend prior.

The Orange and Blue hosted Lafayette, Niagara, Norfolk State, and Saint Francis for the weekend’s Invite, taking the finals in Flights one and three for singles.

Going 3-0 on the weekend, Maria Cioffi ’16 beat teammate Lisa Jouravleva ’18 to take the championship title with an 8-4 victory. After this weekend, Cioffi is tied for fifth place on the University’s career singles wins list. With a record of 75-31, she is tied with Tania Varela ’10.

Flight three also featured an all-Bison final match. Lauren Fishbein ’19 won the title against teammate Melissa Parks ’17 with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Fishbein earned her spot in the final match after a 6-3, 6-2 victory against another teammate, Emilie Bush ’18. Parks advanced to the finals after defeating Lafayette 6-3, 6-1.

Cioffi also competed in doubles with Michele Urbinati ’17. The two Bison went 3-0. One of those victories was against teammates Jouravleva and Fishbein with a final score of 8-6 in the final round, giving them the doubles Flight one championship. The doubles Flight two championship was also a win for the Orange and Blue. Stephanie Pino ’16 and Bush went 3-0, winning the title with an 8-6 decision over Niagara.

The Bison will not play at home for the rest of the fall season. The team will travel to the Mount St. Mary’s Invitational on Oct. 2-4, before heading to the ITA Regional Championships.
