September 30, 2015
After day one of the Columbia Invitational on Sept. 25-26, Connor O’Brien ’19 and Jubal Early ’19 were in the top 20, and the team was positioned in fifth place after the first 36 holes. The Orange and Blue moved up two spots after the second day of play to finish third with a total of 297 for the day.
O’Brien was tied for 15th after the first day of play, posting 75-74. Early was tied for 18th, scoring 75-75. Daniel Levin ’18 posted 76-75 after a good opening day of play. John Edler ’17 tallied 80-75, and D.J. Magee ’17 shot 76-85. Nick Geissler ’16 and JB Thompson ’18 played as unattached at the invitational and posted 81-77 and 82-81, respectively.
“We have a very resilient group of guys who do their best to grind out a score regardless of the conditions. We’re also really focused on the task of winning a golf tournament and anything short of that doesn’t constitute a successful event. It’s a process—one which we are all really invested in, and we look forward to consistently winning events as the fall progresses as we move into the spring with the ultimate goal of winning a Patriot League title,” Levin said.
Edler shot one-over-par 72 for the Bison on the second day of the invitational. Levin shot 74, Early posted 75, and O’Brien carded 76 for the day. The three ended the tournament in a tie for 17th place for individual play. Magee posted a 76 for the day. Drexel won the team title for the invitational with 869, and the Bison trailed in third place with 898. Unattached Bison Thompson and Geissler finished with 76 and 77, respectively.
“The depth of the team has really shown. We have showcased a variety of lineup combinations, while still keeping consistent score and finished regardless of who our top five are. Over the course of the season, I want to improve on my second and third round performance, and my ability to start and finish rounds strongly, and with momentum,” Early said.
The Orange and Blue will return Oct. 4-5 to compete in the Binghamton Invitational in Apalachin, N.Y.
