Bucknell Brigade Members You May Know

Doug Hendry, Senior Editor

Name: Chartine Iraguha ’18
Hometown: Kigali, Rwanda
Major(s): Mechanical Engineering
Why did you decide to join the Bucknell Brigade? “I wanted to give back for all the good things that I have in my life and that I am grateful for, and also to compare the way people in Nicaragua try to overcome poverty versus where I come from, to learn from the people there and experience life elsewhere.”
Name: Fallon Burke ’16
Hometown: Salem, Mass.
Major(s): International Relations and Spanish
Takeaway from the trip: “You really get to see how one person can truly make a difference. The Brigade started because of one Bucknell student’s desire to provide relief and support to those affected by Hurricane Mitch in 1998. This goes to show that grass roots organizations are what work successfully when it comes to development policy. Lastly, the resilience that Nicaraguan people have is unforgettable.”
Name: Eric Tran ’16
Hometown: Malden, Mass.
Major(s): Economics
Why did you decide to join the Bucknell Brigade: “I aspire to be an agent of positive change locally and globally. Starting at the age of six, I was exposed to volunteering and philanthropy events in and around the Boston area. Since then, volunteering has always stuck and remained close to me. I wanted to join the Bucknell Brigade because I knew that it would be a chance that I could merge some of the things I love–philanthropy, travel, and basic human interaction.”
