The men’s lacrosse team faced its second defeat of the season on March 5 as the Bison fell to Navy by a score of 13-6. The Orange and Blue now hold a 0-2 record in the Patriot League and a 3-2 record overall. The Bison fought their way to a one-goal deficit (5-4) at halftime, but Navy came out into the third quarter with their sails soaring, scoring eight consecutive times in the second half.

After trailing 2-1, the Orange and Blue took their first lead of the game in the second quarter during a man-up situation, scoring two goals within 65 seconds. However, the Midshipmen were quick to retie the score, scoring off of a shot that deflected off goalie Christian Klipstein ’19. Navy regained their lead after scoring two additional goals, bringing the score to a close 5-3. Kyle Shanahan ’16 brought the Bison to a one-goal margin of 5-4 before the close of the first half, scoring with just over a minute left.

The Midshipmen dominated the scoring game in the third quarter, outscoring the Orange and Blue 5-0. The Bison retaliated with two goals after the Midshipmen scored the first three goals in beginning of the fourth quarter.

Quinn Collison ’17 led the Bison scoring with his two goals. Following Collison on the stat sheet, Sean Doyle ’16 recorded one goal and two assists. Attackers Will Sands ’18 and Tommy O’Connor ’17 each added one goal and one assist for the Bison.

The Orange and Blue lost the possession game at the face-off, winning only six of the 23. Navy didn’t take their possessions for granted, outshooting the Bison 32-27. The Midshipmen also led the Bison 31-24 in groundballs.

“We really wanted to match Navy’s effort and win the ground ball battle. It’s always an honor and a challenge to play the service academies, and they tend to bring their best against us. At the end of the day, succeeding in the Patriot League is an uphill battle no matter who we’re playing, so we will have a short memory and get ready for Holy Cross,” midfielder Duke Repko ’18 said.

The Bison will be battling it out for their next win on March 12, when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to face Holy Cross.
