Men’s baseball split a four game series April 9-10 against Army in West Point, N.Y. The Bison won their first game of the weekend 6-2, with Andrew Andreychik ’16 pitching his first complete game of the season. Andreychik held the Black Knights scoreless through the first five innings and finished the game with six strikeouts and one walk, while giving up only six hits. This was his 10th career complete game and 16th win, tying for sixth on the Bison’s all-time career win list. Spencer Stokes ’16 was 4-for-4 with three RBIs. He had three singles, a two run double, and scored one run. Sam Clark ’17 was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, as the Bison bats powered to victory.

In the second game, the Bison unfortunately fell 7-4. Mike Castellani ’17 pitched the first five innings, striking out three. Jeff Gottesman ’19 closed out the game, striking out two. Jon Mayer ’16 hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth, tying the score 3-3. The Black Knights bounced back scoring runs in each of the following innings. Clark was 2-for-5, blasting his second home run of the season in the top of the eighth, and his second hit in the ninth. This performance continued his nine-game hitting streak. Brett Smith ’17, who also hit singles at the end of each game, extended his hitting streak to nine games as well.

The Orange and Blue split a second doubleheader against Army on April 10 with two close games. The Bison won the first game 4-2. Dan Keller ’16 started on the mound with his second consecutive complete game victory. He only allowed four hits and two runs, both of which were unearned, and retired the last four batters he faced. The Bison went up in the first with an RBI ground out by Stokes, which was answered by the Black Knights in the second. Joe Ogren ’16 went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles. Ogren and Stokes had back-to-back RBI doubles in the third to take the lead, which the Bison maintained for the rest of the game.

Jack Grabek ’19 was the starting pitcher in the final game of the series. Grabek pitched into the seventh inning and was followed by Connor Van Hoose ’18, who retired three of the four hitters he faced. The Bison started with the lead in the top of the fourth as Tommy Pennington ’16 brought in Chuckie Scales ’18 on a two-out RBI single. Army quickly came back in the bottom of the fourth. Mayer had two hits and Ogren scored in the top of the fifth, thanks to a one-out single from Clark.

“[We] played well enough to stay atop the Patriot League standings. We are excited for a great opportunity to win a big series this weekend at Lafayette,” Stokes said.

Stokes and Ogren are tied for the team lead in RBIs for the season, with 21 apiece.

The Bison will host Holy Cross for another set of doubleheaders from April 23-24.
