The Bison women’s water polo team beat Mercyhurst 9-2 on March 31 in the Kinney Natatorium on the Bison’s Senior Day. All four seniors had strong performances; Marta Considine ’18 led the team with a hat trick and three steals, Manuela Herrera ’18 tallied eight saves, Colleen Barron ’18 had three assists and four steals, and Shyla Lintz ’18 drew four ejections.

Emily Konishi ’19 also recorded three goals and three assists. Ally Furano ’21 scored two goals, and Kali Hyham ’21 added one for the Orange and Blue.

The Bison maintained a 2-1 lead up until late in the third quarter before jumping ahead, creating a bigger gap that would lead to a strong Bison victory. With 2:01 left on the clock in the third quarter, the Orange and Blue mounted an impressive offensive effort, scoring three goals in the stanza before adding four more in the fourth. Considine sparked the push, netting two goals in 50 seconds.

“This weekend was a lot of fun playing our last regular season home game in Kinney Natatorium. It was exciting to have all our families here to celebrate the past four years with us and it gave us even more motivation going into the last few tournaments of our final season,” Barron said.

The Orange and Blue led for the entire contest and relied on their defense to secure the win; they tallied 15 steals and allowed only 18 shots. The Bison are ranked 25th and will continue their season on the road April 7 at Harvard where they will play against Hartwick, Michigan, Saint Francis, and Indiana.
