The Bison men’s water polo team ended the regular season with a 20-6 record, marking the second time in the past three seasons that the Orange and Blue reached 20 regular-season wins. After collecting wins on Nov. 4 against Navy, by a score of 15-7, and Johns Hopkins, by a 14-7 margin, the team now shifts its focus in preparing for the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship.

The Bison opened up the game against Navy by going on a 5-0 run, with attacker Rade Joksimovic ’20 scoring two of the first three goals. Center Logan Schofield ’20 caused a key ejection to set up the power play for the Bison on its third goal of the game, adding an assist to the scoring play.

Attacker Jared Stanley ’21 added the sixth goal of the game before the Midshipmen scored their second goal with six seconds left in the first period. The Bison led the match 8-3 at halftime.

After the break, the Bison scored five more goals during the third period. The period came to an end after Schofield, on an assist from Marko Djordjevic ’19, gave the Bison its eight-goal advantage of 14-6. Schofield drew nine ejections and Jack Otto ’22 saved a season-high 13 shots in the win.

The Bison finished the regular season on a high note, with a 14-7 win against Johns Hopkins on the same day. Four minutes into the game, Schofield opened up the scoring on an assist from Stanley. Joksimovic then doubled the Bison’s lead 20 seconds later on a goal that was assisted by Otto.

During the second period, the Orange and Blue continued to build on its lead after Joksimovic scored on two penalty shots, both earned by Schofield. With three seconds left in the half, attacker Jack Lewis ’22 scored to give the Bison an 8-4 halftime lead.

Yet again, Schofield came up big with an unassisted goal in the first 30 seconds of the third period, powering the Bison to a five-goal advantage. Otto finished with eight saves in net.

“It’s always crucial to finish the regular season strong in order to put ourselves in the best position possible heading into the postseason,” Schofield said. “The most important things to remember now are to maintain composure and to not get complacent.”

The Bison will compete in the MAWPC Championship in the Bronx, N.Y. from Nov. 16-18.
