Women’s lacrosse loses at home to Boston University 19-7, falls to No. 10 Loyola

The Bison women’s lacrosse team (4-11) suffered a tough home loss against the Boston University Terriers by a final score of 19-7 on April 13. On April 17, the team collected another loss to No. 10 Loyola by a score of 21-1. The loss drops the team’s Patriot League record to 2-5.

The Bison were outmatched in all facets of the game against the Terriers. Boston took a 12-2 lead in the first half alone. The Orange and Blue coughed up 20 turnovers and gave up 10 free-position bids. The Terriers won out in the battle of shots (43-19), shots on goal (28-14), ground balls (22-13), and draw controls (17-10).

“It was a tough outcome, but we went out knowing it would be a fight. Boston University is a great team and our coaches put together a scout that we tried our best to follow,” attack Eve Calabria ’21 said.

For the Orange and Blue, attack Tegan Warren ’20 finished with four points on a goal and three assists. Calabria and midfielder Morgan Steinhacker ’20 each finished with two goals apiece. In the goal, Jamie DeWitt ’19 and Lauren Kinnee ’21 combined for nine saves. J. DeWitt also tied Abby Neff ’22 for a team-leading three ground balls.

“Boston is always a battle; they are a very strong team,” Warren said. “But we are a strong team too, and we are going to learn and grow from this experience in order to be better for the upcoming League games. Our team is very positive and excited to see where we will go within the next few weeks.”

On Wednesday, April 17, the team traveled to face the Greyhounds of Loyola. Facing a formidable opponent, the Bison fell 21-1 in what proved to be Loyola’s 50th straight Patriot League victory. Audrey Walsh ’19 collected the lone goal for the Orange and Blue.

“I don’t believe we’ve shown everyone what we are fully capable of yet, and I think these next three games will give people a glimpse into what women’s lacrosse can do,” Calabria said.

The Orange and Blue continue their season on April 20, when they will celebrate Senior Day against the Mountain Hawks. Seniors Callie DeWitt, J. DeWitt, and Audrey Walsh will be honored for their contributions to the Bison women’s lacrosse program.
