Refusing to let their previous loss against the Loyola Greyhounds determine their fate the second time around, the Bison earned a 66-42 victory on Saturday, Feb. 8, after outscoring the Greyhounds 17-4 in the first quarter. Ellie Mack ’20 scored a game-high 18 points, while Ally Johnson ’21 tied her career-high with 17 points. The Bison now sit at 9-2 in the Patriot League and 16-6 overall. This is the fifteenth time the team has been credited with holding their opponent to under 60 points in a game. 

“I think our focus definitely increased from the last time we played them. We executed on offense and defense much better, which allowed us to have a lot more success this time around,” said Abby Kapp ’21.

The Orange and Blue scored the final 10 points during the opening quarter while holding the Greyhounds to 2-for-18 shooting. In the second quarter, the Bison only allowed three made field goals, leading 30-12 going into halftime. 

Holding the Greyhounds to just 12 points in the first half resulted in the fewest points the Bison have allowed this season. Johnson was on fire during the first half alone as she nailed four of her five three-pointers.

The Bison’s best offensive effort came during the third quarter, outscoring the Greyhounds 24-13 while increasing their lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, Mack added 10 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4. The team as a whole made eight of their nine field attempts and all five of their foul shots. 

Autumn Ceppi ’21 came off the bench adding five rebounds and a pair of assists in her 19 minutes of action. Offensively, the Orange and Blue outscored the Greyhounds 28-24 in the paint alone. Mack added eight rebounds and four rebounds. 

Taylor O’Brien ’22 contributed 11 points with four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kapp added three points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Off the bench, Carly Krsul ’23 added eight points in the final quarter to round off the night.

The Bison will return to action as they travel to American University on Feb. 15 for a 2 p.m. game.
