As a team, the Bison women’s basketball team picked up a 67-56 win against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks during their home matchup this past Saturday, Feb 22. Individually, senior Ellie Mack reached her 1,000 career point milestone after making a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter. Mack became the 26th player for the Bison to score 1,000 points, entering the game with 980 career points. Mack put on a stellar performance as she scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half alone, as well as finishing with nine rebounds. The Orange and Blue now sit 13-2 in Patriot League play, earning their fifth consecutive win.

“It felt great reaching 1,000 points. Reaching this milestone is a huge testament to my teammates and coaches who have supported and empowered me throughout the last three years. I actually feel relieved that I reached it because I want us to all be entirely focused on winning the regular season and Patriot League tournament. We are on a roll right now, and our goal is to continue this momentum to finish out the season,” Mack said.

The game was close until the Bison’s 20-6 run that took place during the second half. The largest lead in the game came after Tessa Brugler ’21 made a layup with under six minutes to play in the fourth to make the score 58-40. On the defensive end, the team held the Mountain Hawks to just 8-of-28 shooting in the first half and forced 15 turnovers throughout the course of the game.

In the second half, the Orange and Blue shot 50 percent as they finished 7-for-13 in the third quarter. The team was on fire during this half as Mack hit one of her three triples, extending their lead to 32-22. Ally Johnson ’21 then nailed a three from deep allowing the Bison to take a 13-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Mountain Hawks were unable to come back within single digits for the remainder of the game, scoring only one basket in the first 4:23 of the fourth quarter.

Along with Mack, Abby Kapp ’21 also finished in double digits with 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Johnson finished with eight points and three assists, while Tai Johnson ’23 came off the bench contributing seven points, including one 3-pointer. Taylor O’Brien ’22 also added three assists on the day.

With this win against the Mountain Hawks, the Bison have collected their fifth series sweep of the season. The Orange and Blue now have a two-game lead over its second-place rival, the Colgate Raiders, who they will face again this upcoming week before the postseason.
