On Saturday, Feb. 20 the University community was informed of the death of Irene Njuguna after contracting COVID-19. Njuguna worked for the University Dining Services Team for 15 years and was recently named “Most Popular Team Member” in a student contest. Born in Kenya, Njuguna migrated to the United States with her family in 2005, and started working for the University. She is described as a beacon of light, always having a smile on her face, and went out of her way to learn other languages to greet students. Donations can be made to be put towards her funeral expenses through GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/1b7a3acd.
