The Bison men’s soccer team played American University in their first home game at Emmitt Field this past Saturday, March 13. The Bison have been using a substitute field in Williamsport that was located on Penn’s College campus. The Bison defeated American 2-1, with goals scored by Patrick O’Hara ’22 and Trevor Wiggins ’21.

The Bison played with aggression, determination and collaboration. Matt Thorsheim ’21 was able assist on the first goal of the game. Thorsheim completed a corner kick which was sent to the near post of the goal. O’Hara then headed the ball into the net. This goal warranted a major celebration from the Bison.

“It felt great we were really excited to be back on Emmett for the first time since the 2019 season. We had worked on set pieces all week and I felt we were putting a lot of pressure on them early so it felt really good to be rewarded with a goal early on,” O’Hara said.

American tied the game in the 17th minute by scoring on a penalty kick. However, the Bison continued their intense play, throughout the game. The goal scored by American did not set the Orange and Blue back. Rather, the team responded with another goal, scored by Wiggins.

“It feels good to start off with a win in division play after a poor showing against Lafayette in the previous week. We still have a lot to work on, but the result was a much needed morale boost for the team. Hopefully we can keep this momentum rolling into next Saturday,” Wiggins said.

The Bison will play again this upcoming Saturday, March 20. The Bison will take on Lehigh University. The game will be played away on Lehigh’s campus. The game will start at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
