The Bison stampede doesn’t stop for Leopards

The Bison softball team’s first Patriot League competition in almost 700 days started with a bang, as the Bison went 4-0 in their series with Lafayette. The Bison are now 7-4, first in the Patriot League, and stay undefeated at home (3-0). With the Orange and Blue’s four most recent victories the Leopards stay winless at 0-8, keeping their position of rock bottom in the Patriot League.

Starting the series home at Becker Field, the Bison were quick to put runs on the board. The first game yielded six home runs and 10 runs total, fighting off the Leopards’ sorry seven runs. A quick start for the Bison set the tone for the game as they knocked in two runs with the first at-bats. The second game was more of the same as the Bison brought in two more homeruns, winning 7-3. It was most certainly a long Saturday for the Leopards as the Bison cashed in on 8 home runs total with Nicole Rivait ’22 (2), Taylor Wolfgang ’21(2), Zoie Smith ’24(3), and Jazmyn Stokes ’21(1) all shooting bombs over the fence. Solid pitching helped secure the victories for the Bison on Saturday as Olivia Marinelli ’23 pitched the team’s first complete game.

The second two games scheduled in Easton, Pa. were postponed due to rain, but the weather can’t stop the Bison either. The Orange and Blue rolled the Leopards for two more games winning decisively. Monday started off with a 9-6 victory as the Bison were able to fight off two Leopard homeruns with solid fielding and gritty runs. The second game was barely a game at all as a 12-3 victory ended in six innings due to the run rule. Even though the Bison barely put up any homeruns, hits were strung together along with smart base running to cash in 12 easy runs.

It’s easy to cheer for the Orange and Blue when they are rolling through Patriot League play like a hot knife through butter. Thirty-eight runs in just four games is an unbeatable stride. If the Bison can keep this pace through the entirety of league play they will be getting fitted for rings in no time.
