Baseball dropped its four-game series against Army, winning one of three. They dropped their first three games, 3-14, 1-2 and 1-5, but found a shutout win on Sunday, 8-0.
After a red-hot March where they went 12-4, the Bison have cooled off in April, dropping four of their last six games, allowing 57 runs over that stretch. Even though they got off to a quick start in the opening game, with a Ty Lagoni ’27 two-run home run in the first inning, the Black Knights fired right back in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run shot to left center field.
Army continued to add to the score in the second. The Black Knights scored three from walks and another with a sacrifice fly to increase their lead to 7-2. Michael Trommer ’26 would take one back for the Orange and Blue with a shot to right center field.
The Black Knight batting was relentless, however, as they scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to take game one, 14-3.
The first game of Saturday’s doubleheader was a pitcher’s duel, with both teams struggling to put anyone on base. The Black Knights would break through in the third inning with a solo home run to right field to give them a 1-0 lead.
The Orange and Blue would put two on with no outs in the sixth inning, after Trommer and Lagoni walked. Down 1-0 in the count, Garrett Mathias ’29 doubled to left center field to score Trommer and tied the game at 1-1. The score would stay deadlocked at 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth when Army walked the game off with a bases-loaded single, claiming the second game 2-1.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bison offense struggled to get going again. The Black Knights broke open the scoring in the third inning, knocking one in with a single and another off a wild pitch. The Orange and Blue would respond with a Deacon Bowne ’28 double in the fifth inning, but this would be the last run scored by the Bison, as Army found three more runs and clinched the series with a 5-1 win.
On Sunday, the Orange and Blue were in the driver’s seat the whole time. They drew first blood in the second inning with a Michael Chiaravallo ’27 two-run home run to left-center field. Trommer would hit a two-run shot of his own just one inning later, this time to right-center.
Zach Selfon ’27 and Mathias would knock in runs in the sixth and seventh innings, extending the Bison lead to 6-0 through sixseven innings. Bowne and Billy Fluharty ’27 would score two more off a single and a fielder’s choice to make the lead eight. Hadley Maxwell ’26 came into the game in the seventh inning, throwing three innings of no-hitter baseball to record his ninth save in nine opportunities.
Lefty Tyler Seidman ’29 got the start, throwing six innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five en route to an 8-0 victory. With this win, the Bison have clinched a spot in the Patriot League playoffs, their first appearance since 2024.
Baseball continues its season with a three-game series against Navy in Lewisburg, April 25-26.
