The Orange and Blue concluded their season with losses to UMBC on the road and Colgate at home. The Bison played their non-league matchup on Friday, April 24, to a double overtime. The team then turned around to host the first round of the Patriot League tournament at home on Tuesday night, where they fell to No. 5-ranked Colgate in another overtime.
Friday night, the Bison took charge against UMBC. Will Hopkins ’26 opened the first goal for the Bison and Luke Brunner ’27 tried to tie it up again with a bomb. Despite being down at the first half 6-4, the Orange and Blue quickly outscored their opponents 4-1 in the third quarter. Goalie Luke Renaud ’26 held eight saves and only three goals in 40 minutes of action.
Sean Kerwick ’28 made his first goal of the season with an assist from Anthony Panetti ’28 brought the Bison lead to 7-6 near the end of the third quarter.
With a quick response from the Retrievers to tie it again, Peter Grandolfo ’27 used the help from Chris Begier ’26 to score in the last 11 seconds. In the last quarter, UMBC came back for an 8-8 tie, pushing for overtime. The Retrievers won the OT draw, but the Bison overturned quickly. In the end, UMBC pulled out the game-ending goal to pull the win, 9-8.
The Bison turned their eyes now towards Tuesday’s matchup against Patriot League foe Colgate. The Orange and Blue entered the tournament ranked No. 4, giving them home-court advantage over the Raiders.
The Bison turned on the heat immediately into the match, with Sean Berrigan ’27 scoring the only goal from the first quarter in its final minute; Brunner carried the momentum into the second quarter with a goal of his own. Owen Kovacs ’26 rounded out the trifecta to make a sweeping 3-0 start against the Raiders. In the last minutes of the half, Colgate finally picked up and scored two goals to finish the half only down by one.
Brunner picked up another goal in the third, but that would be the only Bison goal for most of the quarter, while Colgate picked up three to take the lead by one. In the last quarter, Berrigan stepped up to tie the Raiders again, pushing for overtime.
While the defense held strong most of the match, Colgate took the final goal to end the game 6-5, concluding the 2026 spring season for the Bison.
