The Bison had a long weekend ahead of them, first traveling to Baltimore, Maryland to take on Loyola and then returning home for a Sunday game against Holy Cross. Despite a loss to Loyola, the Orange and Blue were able to come through with a tough fought win against Holy Cross. The victory allowed the Bison to move ahead to the Patriot League semifinals.
Thursday’s contest against Loyola was the first loss against the Greyhounds in the Bison’s program history. The Orange and Blue held strong in the first half keeping it close while alternating leads. In the first quarter the Bison prevailed with a score of 2-1 due to back-to-back goals from Megan Krestinski ’26. The Greyhounds came back in the second, scoring twice as much as the Orange and Blue to make the score 4-5 going into halftime.
Loyola was dominant in the third quarter, putting 6 points on the board and preventing the Bison from adding any of their own. The Orange and Blue tried to come back in the fourth quarter scoring five points to Loyola’s four. However, it wasn’t enough and the buzzer sounded with a 9-15 loss for the Orange and Blue.
Krestinski sent the ball to the back of the net three times in this match, bringing her just two points shy of the program’s single season point record. The Bison couldn’t match the Greyhounds on draws with 21 compared to Loyola’s 26.
Coming off their defeat, the Orange and Blue came back to host the first-round Patriot League Championship game versus Holy Cross. An action packed, tight game concluded with a 14-13 victory for the Orange and Blue pushing them forward to the semi-finals. This victory was the second ever Bison victory during tournament play, with the first round being a first-round match up in 2003. Additionally, Krestinski secured the record for highest single-season points scored with 74, previously set at 71.
It was an explosive start for the Orange and Blue, taking the first two draws and adding two tallies to the board off free-position shots in the first three minutes. The Crusaders came back with a point of their own while being up two players due to cards. Krestinski responded with a goal of her own to tie the single-season points record. After a free position shot turned point for each team the score was tied at 3-3.
The Bison took back the lead with a free-position point from Estella Geller ’28 to open the quarter. The Crusaders came back with a 4-0 run to take the lead and bring the score to 4-7. Caroline Sheridan ’26 and Kat Reynolds ’28 closed the gap to one point with just three minutes left in the first half. With just two seconds left until half time Caleigh Cummiskey ’29 with an assist from Krestinki was able to find the back of the net to time the game 7-7 to close the quarter.
After the half there was 3 minutes of scoreless play until the Crusaders could reclaim their lead. The Orange and Blue claimed a 3-0 run from Sheridan, Krestinski and Alex Macutek ’28 to make it a 10-8 game. A big save from Bella Crowley ’27 allowed defense to transition to offense giving Cummiskey and Katie Browne ’26 momentum for back-to-back goals. The quarter closed with a score of 12-8.
Browne continued her run in the fourth quarter with two more goals, securing a hattrick. The Crusaders interrupted the Bison 7-0 run with five back-to-back goals. With only 19.1 seconds left in the game, the Crusaders attempted to tie up the score but were denied by Crowley and the Orange and Blue defense. The clock went to zero and the Bison celebrated ensuring their second ever Patriot League Semifinal appearance.
Yesterday, the Bison traveled to Annapolis to taken on Navy, seeded number one in the league.
