This past weekend proved to be a great one for the Orange and Blue, as the team ended its six-game losing streak against the Crusaders with a nail-biting battle on the road. The teams clashed on Saturday, April 4, with the Bison pulling a narrow 12-11 win. This was the Orange and Blue’s third win in a row, and puts the team 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League.
While the Crusaders may have led the draw with 21 out of 25 draw control wins, the Bison pummeled their opponents in turnovers, 24-9. Caleigh Cummiskey ’29 led Bucknell’s offensive efforts with six points on four goals and two assists. Her performance on Saturday earned her Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. Megan Krestinski ’26 and Alex Nesbitt ’26 both found hat tricks in the game, with Krestinski’s earning the game-winning goal. Alex Macutek ’28 and Estella Geller ’28 also picked up one goal each. Goalie Bella Crowley ’27 made seven saves and earned a .389 save percentage.
The matchup started in Holy Cross’s favor, as they led 2-0 in the first. After a strategic timeout, the Bison came out on a 4-0 run to take the lead. The second quarter saw the teams trade leads, with the Bison ahead by one point at halftime. They held onto this lead throughout the third, pushing the score to 10-9 in the end of the quarter. In the last quarter, the Crusaders notched two back-to-back goals, handing them an 11-10 lead. The Orange and Blue came back in the last seven minutes of the game to earn their own back-to-back goals, ending the game 12-11.
The Bison will be back in action today, at home against Patriot League opponent Lafayette.
