Men’s and Women’s Track and Field competed at the 130th running of the Penn Relays, earning three top-ten marks, a school record, a meet record and a facility record.
The meet was once again headlined by the performance of Evelyn Bliss ’27, the reigning United States national champion in the javelin. On her first throw, Bliss broke the Penn Relays meet record of 185-02 feet with a throw of 188-00 feet. On her final throw, she unleashed a throw of 194-08 feet, breaking the Franklin Field facility record of 192-01 feet, set almost thirty years ago by three-time United States national champion Lynda Lipson-Blutreich.
Bliss finished in first place and was joined by Brylee Tereska ’26, who threw 156-08 feet for second place. The Bison broke more records on the track as the quartet of Katrina Torelli ’27, Jenna Wright ’28, Grace Vives ’26 and Shaelan McNally ’28 came together to set a new school-record in the distance medley relay.
The group ran a time of 11:30.52 to finish 11th overall and break the four-year-old record. The distance squad rewrote the Bison record books over the weekend, picking up three more top-ten marks. Meghan Rentner ’26 ran 10:30.31 in the 3000-meter steeplechase to slot herself in at second all-time.
Kailey Granger ’27, hot off breaking a school record in the 3000 meters, ran 35:48.86 in the 10,000 meters, good for seventh in school history. Caryn Rippey ’26 moved up to seventh all-time as well, running 16:43.45 in the 5000 meters. Continuing the Orange and Blue success in the throws, Madison Fowler ’28 secured a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 179-05 feet.
For the men, Aiden Tacker ’26 was the top finisher, placing fourth in the hammer, with a mark of 197-00 feet. The 4×100 relay team, made up of Amani Ndegwa-Brown ’27, Preston Lubeski ’27, Garrett Backus ’27 and Luke Petryna ’28, placed fifth in the finals, running 41.54 seconds. Alex Polenik ’29 threw 167-03 feet in the discus throw, good for sixth place. Lucas Williams ’27 finished seventh in the pole vault, clearing 15-05.75 feet.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field continue their season today at the Kehoe Twilight at Maryland University.
