National Champion Evie Bliss ’27 won the javelin event at the 60th Colonial Relays. Her throw shattered both the facility and meet record, as well as moved her into first place in the NCAAs.
Bliss took home two awards from the weekend, Patriot League Women’s Athlete of the Week and Bison of the Week.
On her first throw, Bliss exceeded 56 meters and over 50 in two others before fouling her fifth. Then, in her final try, the junior delivered a mark of 59.95. (196-8).
The throw passed the previous record of 56m (183-8.5) by Marilyn Senz in 1992 at the Pan-Am Games. In addition to taking the first spot in the NCAA, the throw nearly guaranteed Bliss, a two-time All-American, a third consecutive NCAA qualifying bid.
Catch Bliss and the rest of the Orange and Blue at the Bison Outdoor Classic this weekend.
