The Bison were victorious with their 13-11 win on Saturday, April 10 at Graham Field against the Colgate Raiders. This was a memorable day as the team celebrated their nine seniors: Caroline Walsh, Gabby Walsh, Julia Bradbury, Mason Rode, Lydia Morgantini, Michelle Melville, Kali Peeples, Eve Calabria and Lauren Kinnee. Emma Cashwell ’22 had a standout performance with four goals all scored in the second half. Rode also came up big for the Bison with a draw control with only three minutes to go in the game. The team now sits at 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League.

The game was close for the first 23 minutes, neither team leading by more than one goal. By halftime, the Bison had its biggest lead of three goals with a score of 8-5 as a result of goals by McHale, Katie Wendell ’21 and Tatumn Kohlbrenner ’24.

All in the last 15 minutes of this intense match up, Cashwell scored three goals in under a span of five minutes, putting the Orange and Blue up 13-7. The Raiders responded with four consecutive goals, closing the game to 13-11, which ended up being the final score of the game.

The Bison called a timeout to calm the nerves. Rode came out after the timeout and secured her fifth draw control, allowing the team to run the clock. Laurel McHale ’22 looked to add one more goal with 1:55 left in the game, but it was saved by the Raider’s goalie. The Orange and Blue regained control with 90 seconds left on the shot clock, allowing the Raiders to have possession the last 20 seconds of the game being down two goals.

Offensively, the Bison had a 37-29 shot advantage. Cashwell ended with four goals while McHale tallied three goals and an assist and Rode tallied two goals and one assist. Peeples finished with two goals and Emily Baird ’24 created three turnovers. The Orange and Blue led 16-15 in ground balls. Both Kinnee and Caitlin Tucker ’22 appeared in goal for the Bison. Kinnee had one save while Tucker finished with six saves.

Kinnee, who is also an active member of ROTC, said, “The game this weekend was the most memorable of my career. It started off with recognizing the senior class and all we have accomplished during our four years together. Then, for the first time in my career, we had the Colors presented during the National Anthem. Five of my closest friends and fellow ROTC Cadets were the ones to present the Colors, which made it even more special. We played a great game and ended off with a great win! It was a day that I will never forget!”

The Bison will be on the road for its final three games of the Patriot League season, starting with taking on the Loyola Greyhounds next Saturday, April 17 at 6 p.m.
