Women’s tennis fall twice

During a weekend of competing both away and at home, the Bison women’s tennis team struggled against the Temple Owls and the Navy Midshipmen. The team first traveled to Temple on Saturday and unfortunately lost 1-6. On Sunday, they hosted Navy and suffered a loss 0-7.

The Bison had one doubles win, along with a singles victory by Cayla Koch ’21. Koch has yet to lose in singles play this spring and has played all of her matches on court two. Daniela Bellini ’22 played alongside Koch and they won their doubles match. This is the pair’s third win together this season, with a win of 6-4. Following this, Tyne Miller ’24 and Bellini faced singles losses against the Owls.

The Bison were next at home facing Navy. Being their last home event, senior day was celebrated to honor Koch, Rachel Carroll ’21, and Sofia Ayuso ’21. Although Koch and Bellini have been fairly successful as a doubles team, they were unable to win the tiebreaker in their match in the No. 1 spot. The No. 3 doubles team, Chloe Zilkha ’23 and Carroll also fell in a tie breaker. Following the doubles was Koch’s singles match. Unfortunately, she suffered a 6-0, 6-4 loss, ending her undefeated singles streak.

The Bison will compete April 23 against IUP at home. The day after, they will be traveling to St. Bonaventure, N.Y. to take on the Bonnies.
