Bison Women’s Golf has a challenging weekend at the Nittany Lion Invitational

The Orange and the Blue’s women’s golf team placed 14th of 14 in the Nittany Lion Invitational this weekend. The Bison golfed 36 holes on Saturday and had team scores of 318 and 317 going into their Sunday competition. 

Cristina Canales ’24 was the lowest scorer for the Bison as she had two birdies and 13 pars.  Sahana Paravantavida ’23 had a low round two score for the Orange and the Blue, which included four birdies and a pair of twos on par three holes. 

Canales said, “The course was in very good condition and the weather favored us. However, we weren’t prepared to shoot as low as the other teams did.” 

Other solid scores for the Bison include: Kayla Yi ’24 shot 79-82 and Sun Woo Jeon ’22 shot 84-82. Morgan Sohosky ’23 competed as an individual and shot 78-83. 

When competing on Sunday, the Bison women’s golf team placed 14th of 14, posting a 320 team aggregate ending their competition at the Penn State White Course. 

Woo Jeon led the team with the lowest score on Sunday, shooting a 76 with 12 pars, a birdie, and five bogeys. Her performance was the second-best of her career. 

Paravantavida also had a solid performance for the Orange and Blue, shooting a 77 in the final round. Paravantavida had a final score of 233 for the weekend, which was the best score for the Bison. 

Canales had the top score after Saturday, but dropped to an 87 after Sunday’s round. 

The Yi twins also had a solid performance over the weekend, with Kelsey Yi ’24 shooting 83 and Kayla Yi ’24 shooting 84. Sohosky ended her individual performance with shooting 83. 

The Orange and Blue Women’s Golf team will next compete in Youngstown, Ohio at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Sept. 13 and Sept. 14.
